IT'S BRUSH FIRE SEASON

With warmer weather comes dry vegetation that can result in brush fires that burn and spread quickly.

Wildland fires burn rapidly and winds often make them unpredictable.  Call the Fire Department for assistance every time.

Report brush fires immediately by dialing 911. Never assume someone else will make the call.

Keep your yard mowed and clear of tall, dry grass.

Deposit all cigarette butts in proper containers. Never throw a cigarette butt onto the ground.

Equip all off-road vehicles with spark shields.

Create a 30-foot "defensible space" - an area free of dried grass or other highly flammable dry vegetation - around your home. Living plants don't need to be removed, only dead or dry ones.

Remove dead branches or leaves from living trees and cut the brush and grass around trees short. Also, clear all flammable items and foliage from underneath wooden decks and overhangs.

Tune in to The History Channel's new show "SHOCKWAVE" to see the story of our 2001 rope rescue on Lock 9.
